Homeopathic Medicine Benefits
Research is showing that even though homeopathic medicine has been used to treat health conditions for centuries, it's not just harmless — it appears to be effective.
Homeopathic medicine is based on the theory of "like cures like," meaning that you can use a substance that causes similar symptoms to what you're suffering from to cure those symptoms.
Ingredients used in homeopathic medicine are carefully diluted, which means they contain no active ingredients and have a very low risk of negative side effects. However, because these remedies are not regulated by the FDA and don't require approval before being sold, they can't make any guarantees.
Homeopathic remedies are not intended to treat serious health conditions and should not be used instead of traditional medicine, but they can be used as an adjunct. In a meta-analysis of research on homeopathy for the treatment of coughs and colds, researchers found that homeopathic treatment was significantly better than a placebo.
The quality of research on homeopathy is poor, but evidence is mounting that it has therapeutic potential. This evidence is enough that organizations such as the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine consider it worth studying further.
It has been used to treat asthma, acne allergies, burns, cancer, colds and flu, colic, depression, diabetes, diarrhea, eczema and psoriasis.
More research is needed to determine whether homeopathy is effective at treating more common health concerns, such as cancer, a common disorder that affects millions of people each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention only recommend it for treating mild infections and common ailments, not serious conditions.
Patients who have severe asthma or allergies need to follow their doctor's advice about which medicines to take. If homeopathy works for them, they will be able to treat these conditions with fewer or less expensive conventional medicines.
Unlike a typical disease caused by microbes, such as the flu or bacterial infections, a common allergy appears to be caused by an allergic reaction to pollen. Pollen is the skin's way of communicating with plants and insects. When our bodies are exposed to pollen, they release histamine and other chemicals that cause inflammation in the respiratory tract and trigger symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and swelling in the throat. In some cases, the pollen can reach deep into the throat and trigger heartburn and nausea.

According to a 2001 study, 13 percent of those who had been diagnosed with asthma were allergic to pollen. The researchers conclude that at least 10 percent of asthma exacerbations could be avoided if people with allergies had access to homeopathic treatments designed to calm inflammation in the respiratory tract.
Main Homeopathy medicines are:
Natrum Muriaticum (sea water) helps all types of allergy, arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, allergy, asthma and eczema.
Phosphorus(with Calcium) helps catarrh(cough), colds, mouth and sinusitis. It is also used as a mucolytic in diseases of the urination. In digitalis poisoning it has symptoms of vomiting and purging.
Lycopodium (club moss) helps gout, eczema and psoriasis. It is also used in the treatment of jaundice, malaria and leprosy.
Arsen-Alb (soldier's lily) helps with biliary colic, tuberculosis and enlargement of liver.
Silicea (sand) helps with all types of arthritis, asthma and skin diseases.
Other research suggests that homeopathy can be used for the short-term management of acute and chronic symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease.
Although the evidence is not strong enough to support its use in treating all health conditions, there is enough that experts say people should be aware of it.
"Homeopathy is not scientifically proven and therefore cannot be recommended as a treatment," says Erik Osberg, a professor at Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
